Greetings during the Great Fast!

Attached is an opportunity for all of us to participate in getting our building in compliance for ADA and permanent occupancy.

We all have houses or cars that have to be maintained and so it is with our church property. The difference being that there are many of you who are able to make this happen more readily than in our personal lives.

This is the first step of many to update our building per code. Everyone will have the opportunity to participate, whether it is purchasing a toilet, a towel bar, or even donating a few dollars toward the labor for accomplishing this task.

We are blessed that Howard, Claudia’s husband whom we all know, is willing to take on this project himself. He has been a plumbing contractor for many years and is looking to hire a couple qualified helpers, but taking nothing for himself.

In addition the needs list will be posted on our web site, in order to reach others outside of our parish for help if they are so moved.

Someone in the parish has fronted the $5565.00 so that this work can begin ASAP. This is a loan and will need to be repaid.

Recently we had to replace the hot water tank. There is a leak in the roof that will have to be addressed in the very near future, but for right now this is our Lenten goal.

May your hearts be softened, to make an extra effort to contribute for this project.

Смотрите в приложении возможность для всех нас поучаствовать в перестроечном проекте для соответствия стандартам ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) (закон, обязывающий общественные места строить с учетом доступа и удобства для инвалидов) и постоянного посещения людьми.

У нас у всех есть жилища или машины, которые нам нужно соответственно содержать и поддерживать в надлежащем состоянии – то же самое касается и церковной собственности. Разница только в том, ЧТО мы с бОльшим рвением готовы сделать, в отличие от нашей личной жизни.

Это наш первый из многих шагов по благоустройству нашего здания для соответствия кодексу. Все будут иметь возможность поучаствовать, будь то или покупкой унитаза, или вешалки для полотенца, или жертвуя несколько долларов в оплату рабочей силы по выполнению этой задачи.

Нам повезло, что Говард, муж Клаудии, которых мы все хорошо знаем, лично взялся за этот проект. Он уже много лет работает подрядчиком сантехником, и собирается нанять несколько квалифицированных помощников, но себе ничего не берет.

В дополнение, на вебсайте будет размещен список нужд, чтобы те, кто находятся за пределами нашего прихода, тоже могли бы поучаствовать в помощи, если они заинтересованы.

Кто-то из прихожан одолжил нам наперед $5565.00, чтобы работы могли начаться незамедлительно. Но это заем, и его нужно будет вернуть.

Недавно мы были вынуждены заменить водонагреватель (бойлер). Также есть течь в крыше, и это тоже надо будет исправить в ближайшем будущем. Но пока что этот проект является нашей целью в этом Посту.

Estimation of costs to bring the Parish into compliance with A.D.A. (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards prior to seeking a Clark County Use Permit.This estimation is predicated upon Howard Powell donating his knowledge, time, tools and labor to complete the necessary remodel, repairs, replacement of doors, plumbing fixtures, handicap ramp and railings.

The Parish will be responsible to pay for all necessary parts, materials, fixtures, toilets, lumber, and concrete to complete the project.

Additionally, the Parish will pay for the (2) qualified plumbing labor/helpers which will be required for approximately 5 days at $20 per hour per man to assist with the project.

Approximate labor charge $800 x 2 = $1,600

Remodel the unisex bathroom adjacent to the Chapel:

Remove the cabinet/vanity
Install a new handicap accessible “wall mount sink” and
Install new handicap approved faucet, mounts, lines, angle-stops and hardware
Cost: sink, faucet, mounts, lines, hardware $341

Remove existing toilet
Install a new Toto handicap 1.6 G.P.F. 17” high toilet, floor seal, new seat and
Install required wall mount handicap bars, soap dispenser, paper holder, towel dispenser
Cost: Toilet, seat, hardware, dispenser, handicap bars

Toto Drake A.D.A. compliant toilet & parts $353

Wall mount handicap bars (2) at $57 each = $114

Dispensers 3 @ $32 = $96

Stud-up and close the existing doorway – install a new A.D.A. door and closer with handicap door handle.
Cost: Lumber, drywall, door, frame, hardware $293

Install handicap ramp A.D.A. compliant 1 in 12 approximately 11.5 ft long from Chapel glass door entrance to the new unisex bathroom

Saw-cut concrete and remove floor tile. Dig out area for new concrete ramp.
Set forms – Lay-out new ramp

Pour concrete ramp with required rough surface $578

Fabricate custom handicap hand rail and mount to new concrete. Custom handrails $462

New ingress / egress door requirements

Install front exterior A.D.A. door, frame, closer, hardware to open–out for A.D.A. ingress $864
Install rear exterior door A.D.A. door, frame closer, hardware to open-out for A.D.A. ingress $864

The total approximate cost being $5,565

Due to the fact that old plumbing, pipes, fixtures, joints and connections can break or leak during disassembly, additional pipes, fixtures, parts or pieces may be required at additional expense during construction.

After review if you wish to proceed with the outlined ADA renovations, please sign and return so that I may place the necessary orders for the fixtures and materials to complete the project. Any changes to this proposal will be in writing with an authorization to proceed so that the Parish will have documentation for accounting purposes.

Three Diocesan-wide Commemorations are Observed on November 6 and 7, 2017

On Monday November 6 and Tuesday November 7, 2017, there will be a diocesan-wide observance of the Centennial of the Bolshevik Revolution (October 25/November 7, 1917) also known as the Day of Irreconciliation; the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the signing of the “Act of Canonical Communion” between the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and the Moscow Patriarchate (4/17 May, 2007) and the 25th Anniversary of the consecration to the episcopacy of His Eminence KYRILL Archbishop of San Francisco and Western America (May 25/June 7, 1992).

On 1/14 of August, 2017, His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill published Decree 11-E/2017 in which he announced the observance of the Day of Irreconciliation, on this Centennial of the start of the bloody and tragic Bolshevik Revolution which ushered in an era of atheism in the Russian land in the 20th Century. This unfortunate anniversary will be observed at Holy Virgin Cathedral in San Francisco, CA, by serving a panykhida for all of those who suffered at the hands of the godless authorities in that epoch and will be followed by a lecture reflecting on the history behind the events, which will be open to the general public that evening. The keynote speaker is Archpriest Nicholas Karipoff of Melbourne, Australia.

Archbishop Kyrill’s Decree also announced the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the signing of the “Act of Canonical Communion,” which will be combined with the Feast Day of the Diocesan Cathedral in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow,” and the annual Fall clergy retreat (November 5-8).

Included during those days will be the celebration of Archbishop Kyrill’s 25th Anniversary of his consecration to the episcopacy. The auxiliary bishops of the Western American Diocese, His Grace THEODOSY Bishop of Seattle and His Grace IRENEI Bishop of Sacramento, issued an appeal to the parishes of the diocese to support a gift for Archbishop Kyrill. On the Feast of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” in the presence of the clergy and faithful a present will be given to His Eminence on behalf of the entire Western American Diocese: a complete set of bishop’s vestments and a bishop’s staff with a commemorative inscription.

As proclaimed in His Eminence’s Decree the clergy and faithful are called upon to join together in an all-diocesan event that will mark these three commemorations with prayer, reflection and thanksgiving; for whomever it is possible to request time off from work or studies so as to participate.

Три общеепархиальных юбилея отмечаются 6 и 7 ноября, 2017 года

В понедельник 6 ноября и во вторник 7 ноября 2017 года организуется общеепархиальный День памяти 100-летия большевицкой революции (25 октября/7 ноября, 1917 г) – День Непримиримости, а также празднование 10-летия подписания «Акта Евхаристического общения» между Русской Православной Церковью Заграницей и Московским Патриархатом (4/17 мая, 2007 г) и 25-летия хиротонии во епископы Его Высокопреосвященства Высокопреосвященнейшего КИРИЛЛА, Архиепископа Сан-Францисского и Западно-Американского (25 мая/7 июня, 1992 г).

1/14 августа текущего года Его Высокопреосвященство издал Указ No. 11/2017 г., в котором он объявил о проведении «Дня Непримиримости» во вторник 7 ноября. В этот день, сто лет тому назад, началась трагическая для русского народа кровавая большевицкая революция, которая открыла эпоху безбожного правления в России. Годовщина отметится совершением панихиды по жертвам красного террора, и сразу же последует доклад, посвященный истории этого события и его последствиям. Докладчик – протоиерей Николай Корыпов из Мельбурна, Австралия.

Указом Архиепископа Кирилла также объявлено об общеепархиальном торжественном праздновании 10-летия подписания «Акта Евхаристического общения». Юбилей будет отмечен во время престольного праздника кафедрального собора в честь иконы Божьей Матери «Всех скорбящих Радости» в г. Сан-Франциско, который совмещается с осенним пастырским совещанием духовенства Западно-Американской епархии.

К этим двум историческим событиям приурочен также юбилей Архиепископа Кирилла. Викарные епископы Западно-Американской епархии – Его Преосвященство ФЕОДОСИЙ, Епископ Сеатлийский, и Его Преосвященство ИРИНЕЙ, Епископ Сакраментский, направили обращение ко всем приходам, в котором огласили 25-летний юбилей Его Высокопреосвященства и сбор на подарок ему. Средства собираются на комплект архиерейского облачения и жезла с памятной надписью. Эти дары преподнесут Архиепископу Кириллу в престольный праздник в присутствии сонма духовенства и мирян.

Как оглашено в Указе 11/2017 г.,  духовенство и верующие призваны собраться в ноябре на это общеепархиальное мероприятие. Отметим вместе эти три годовщины с покаянием, молитвой и благодарностью. Тем, у кого есть возможность, рекомендуется отпроситься с работы или школьных занятий.

Statement From the Chancery of the Western American Diocese on the Tragic Events in Las Vegas

With horror and pain in my heart I have followed reports of the recent atrocity in Las Vegas, as a result of which so many are dead and many more are injured. Our prayers, deepest feelings and sympathies are with all those affected by this unimaginable cruelty. We offer our prayers at the holy shrine of St John (Maximovich)
the Wonderworker of Shanghai and San Francisco, which contain his incorrupt, healing and life-bearing relics; and we fervently plead for his Godly intercessions, to warm and comfort the relatives of the reposed and those undergoing treatment in hospitals and elsewhere, and to appeal to the Lord of All that He would
send His heavenly peace into the hearts of all men.

From my heart I wish God’s help to the clergy and faithful of the fraternal Orthodox Churches in the region,
affected by this horrific event; to the doctors and law enforcement officials who continue even now to labor
on site for the aid of the innocent; and to those who even at this hour seek out the circumstances of this incident,
striving to bring assistance and support to those now in need.

Though in the face of such evil the darkness of the world feels overwhelming, as Christians we must never
forget that there is “a Light that shines in the darkness” (John 1:5), and that the darkness has not, and will not,
and cannot overcome it. May this terrible tragedy lead us selflessly to work toward the good, to bring more
of the Light of Christ into this “adulterous and sinful” world, making it less dark through the proclamation of His divine presence.

Заявление из канцелярии Западно-Американской епархии в связи с трагическими событиями в Лас Вегасе

С ужасом и болью в сердце следил за сообщениями о чудовищном злодеянии в Лас Вегасе, в результате которого есть погибшие и раненые. Наши молитвы, глубокие переживания и соболезнования со всеми, кого затронула эта невероятная жестокость. У священной раки с нетленными и многоцелебными мощами святителя и чудотворца Иоанна (Максимовича) молимся о том, чтобы он своим теплым предстательством согрел и утешил родственников убитых и проходящих лечение в больницах, чтобы Господь всеял именно Свой неземной мир в сердца всех людей.

От души желаю помощи Божией духовенству братских Православных Церквей, врачам и правоохранительным органам, работающим на месте, выясняющим обстоятельства произошедшего и оказывающим всем необходимую помощь и поддержку.

Пусть эта страшная трагедия подвигнет нас на то, чтобы, самоотверженно трудясь в добре, приносить побольше Света Христова в этот мир, “прелюбодейный и грешный”, делая его менее темным.

Participation of the faithful at the holy eucharist

The eucharist is the main Sacrament of the Church, instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ on the eve of his saving Passion, death upon the Cross, and resurrection. To participate in the eucharist and to partake of the Body and Blood of Christ is commanded by our Saviour who through his disciples said to all Christians: “Take, eat: this is My Body,” and “Drink of it, all of you: for this is My Blood of the New Testament” (Matt 26:26-­‐28). The Church herself is the
Body of Christ and, therefore, the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ visibly manifests the mystical nature of the Church, building up the ecclesial community. The spiritual life of an Orthodox Christian is inconceivable without the communion of the Holy Mysteries. Receiving the Holy Gifts, the faithful are sanctified by the power of the Holy Spirit and are united with Christ our Saviour and with each other, making one Body of Christ. The Sacrament of the Eucharist requires special preparation. In the Church, the time itself – be it the span of a human life or the entire history of mankind – is an expectation and preparation for
the encounter with Christ, while the entire rhythm of liturgical life is an expectation and preparation for the Divine Liturgy and, accordingly, for communion, for which sake the Liturgy is celebrated [in the first place].
