    The Sacrament of Holy Unction <\/span><\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. One should not be late for the beginning of the Sacrament of Holy Unction;<\/li>\n
    2. Only Orthodox Christians may receive Unction;<\/li>\n
    3. Children younger than 7 are NOT anointed;<\/li>\n
    4. Women undergoing menstruation MAY receive Holy Unction;<\/li>\n
    5. Women may not be wearing cosmetics;<\/li>\n
    6. One should come to the Sacrament dressed with an open collar; women should cover their heads;<\/li>\n
    7. The holy oil should NOT be given out after Unction;<\/li>\n
    8. Each person should be holding a large candle for the beginning of the Sacrament.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Holy Unction is a sacrament that, by blessing the believer\u2019s body with sanctified oil, calls down God\u2019s grace, healing one\u2019s physical and spiritual infirmities.<\/p>\n

      The sacrament of \u201canointing with oil\u201d was instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself (Matt. 10:1; Mark 6:13). In addition to the Holy Apostle James, Origen and the Holy Hierarchs Irenaeus of Lyons, Basil the Great, and John Chrysostom all attest to its existence in the Early Church (indeed, they are the authors of the prayers read during the performing of the Sacrament).<\/p>\n
